Mr.Pierce was one of the kindest men I ever met. He always greeted you with a smile and a joke or two and he always made you feel welcome. Mr. Pierce was a gentle soul and I am sure he will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him. I am so very sorry for your loss. May God be with you all . Mona

Reflections – Cliff Meacham I first met John Pierce at Broadway Methodist Church after I got to Schenectady as a 17-year-old farm kid. I took a room at 2777 Campbell Avenue. He quickly took me into his family at 2221 Concord Street also in Bellevue. His dad and mom and twin sisters (they called him Jack) were so kind to me, treating me like a member of the family. John and I sang together in that choir in in many others through the years. John brought me into his deer hunting gang led by Charlie Thomas. Who has his uncle Gard Harris’ father-in-law. John was always ready with a bunch of jokes for us after we would walk in the four miles on a Friday night. We lost a lot of sleep and would drag out of the bunk before dawn the next day and walk the woods all day. We slept well that next night. John earned the name “Mother Pierce” from his cousin Roy Berry because he (and Gard) did most of the cooking and meal management. Many time June and Emily would help us set up camp in the early fall of those years in the fifties. I remember that John’s grandfather Harris used to have a wonderful garden in his backyard, I think on Hegeman Street. John followed the tradition and had a fine garden of his own for many years. Always active in the church, John was chief cook for the annual roast beef dinner that they held. On many occasions John would come with me to my family’s farm. He always fit right in and was a favorite of my kin. I recall one year he was atop a load of bailed hay that topples over, no one hurt. June and I (at John’s request) set up a blind date for he and Emily. We met them at Hillhurst Park for tennis. They were married that same December I don’t recall his wedding but I do recall that he served as “father” escort for June when she and I were married. John always enjoyed the outdoors and was comfortable there, having with Roy attended Boy Scouts. He, Roy and I used to take an annual trip to York Beach ME for deep sea fishing. Later he and his family frequently spent summer vacation at a camp on Willsboro Bay on Lake Champlain. I am happy that I could count John as a friend.
